FAQ
We tend to focus on luggage and storage type of assets. e.g. trunks, cases, chests. A lot of our business comes from the music world – guitar cases, amplifier cases, touring chests etc. We can do other things too, so get in touch if you’d like to chat something through. We specifically do not work on musical instruments themselves.
Do you work on any products or assets?
Do you only do the outside of the items / cases?
In most cases, yes. We can do insides too, but 99% of customers still want it mint inside for protection, but aged on the outside for ‘looks’.
The case I want customising is brand new. Do I provide the asset or can / do you source it?
You need to supply the asset.
What do I need to consider when thinking about going for this?
Ultimately, it’s up to you. Take a look at our briefing form which will prompt you for all the things we need to know when bringing your idea to life. Essentially, what do you want it to look like? Which artist or band or logo do you want? Whereabouts do you want them? What size and colour? What level of ageing and distressing do toy want? Is it for display purposes or does it still need to be functional? The more information you give us, the better!
Yes (within reason). The practicality of stencils needs to be considered. Every shape, letter or number is different. For numbers such as 0 and 8, and letters like R and B, we need to design to ensure the shape of the letter is retained (ie the little ‘islands’ in the letter are kept. We do this by adding little ‘bridges’ on applicable shapes to keep everything looking right. Once spraying is done, these bridges areas then won’t have been sprayed. For many, this is the ‘stencil look’ they are after. But if it is not what you want, we can manually paint them in if required too.
Can you design anything on a stencil?
Can I have more than one colours on my stencils or design?
Absolutely! You can have what you want, in terms of number of stencils, size, position and colours. Some clients prefer a more ‘memorabilia’ style look with album names, logos etc.. Other prefer a more realistic touring style, which might have band names, addresses etc.. Just remember what a stencil is though - it’s usually spot colour(s) being hand-sprayed on. It’s not a colour print we’re sticking on.
Do all cases work well for stencilling and ageing?
Stencilling - yes. The spray will pretty-much adhere to most surfaces, so that side of it is fine. Just be aware that some rock cases which use the ‘hexagon’ style surface is slightly raised, so that can slightly change the end result. The ageing will vary from material to material. The softer materials tend to age best – e.g. tweed, fabric-covered cases work really well. The modern ABS-plastic style flight cases can still be aged, but they don’t look as authentic.
Of course. If you’d like photos, just let us know. Or it’s it’s a surprise, let us know too so we don’t spoil the event.
Can you send me photos along the way?
What is the design / sign-off / ordering process?
Once you’ve decided to go-ahead, we will give you a price with images of what your final asset will look like, along with a briefing form which details everything you want doing (e.g. number, position, colour of stencils), distress level etc. Once you are happy, please sign and/or confirm agreement by email. Payment terms is 50% on agreement, 50% on completion/collection. Work does not commence until initial payment and asset is received.
You can either drop it off (postcode RG27) or send it to us via normal couriers. Please use a signed-for service for your protection.
How do I get my asset to you??
This is a ‘piece-of-string’ question as it entirely depends on how complex your job is. A typical guitar case with 5 stencils with medium ageing and distressing is roughly 2 weeks from receipt of asset and payment.
How long does it take?
